What Is My Perfect Day? What Is Yours?

Don’t you love days like today, I really do. It’s just as I like it. Warm, a bit warm actually, but not too hot, (I hate heat). And there’s no wind and it’s just ideal. I love it like this.

I’ve been out in the car today and I’ve been feeling pretty good. I drive along looking at the views and I love it here where I live. I see cows in the fields and happy people.

But what is a perfect day for me may not be a perfect day for you you know. Perhaps you’ve had some really bad news or maybe you’re sick or maybe you just don’t feel yourself today. It’s all different for you than it is for me. That’s a  little philosophy isn’t it.

It’s all subjective isn’t it? To me it’s a good day, I can’t see any reason why it isn’t a great day. But that’s just me isn’t it? For me it’s a great day but for you it may be terrible.

My point is that everything is subjective. What is a good day to me seems obvious. It couldnt be anything but a great day, for me. But thats only me. I love the day but if you don’t its a terrible day.

What is that makes a good day for me and a terrible day for you? Good question. Its me and you, its how we see it all. Its nothing about the day, its about how we see it. So I see the sunshine, I see the cows, I see the people and more. Much more.

Surely the only explanation is that it’s all in our minds. We see the day through the filter of our minds. We don’t see the day, we see what our minds tell us the day is like. We filter the day through our minds and our experiences. Our mind is all there is.

Even if we have the exact same day you see it different to me. Lets say we both go for that drive together. We both see the happy people, we both see the sunshine, we both see the cows, but we still have a different experience of the day, don’t we? Because our minds filter what we see through the experiences of the past. Perhaps you don’t even see the cows and the sunshine too.

Why Do I Write This Website?

So what gets me out of bed each day? What do I love to do? Why have I decided to write this website?

I really enjoy writing, that’s all, though I’m not at all convinced that I’m much good at it. I have been into writing for many years, in fact I remember when I was really young and in primary school I wrote stories one after another.

I wrote them then gave them to my teacher who read all of them. I suspect he got a little bored with it all. I can’t believe I wrote so many stories when I was young and he read them.

When I got older I did a degree in the Arts but I never concentrated on writing, and now I wish I had done so. If I had my time all over again I would take my time to study what I loved to do then and still love to do. I do love it.

I have no idea if I would ever have become good enough at writing to make a living at it, but I would have liked to have tried. You never know unless you try, and I wish I had tried.Maybe I would have failed, but at least I’d have known.

I would have given it a really good go, and would have made a difference if I’d tried.

Writing well can be learned I’m really sure. It’s a learnable skill. It’s not something that you’re born with. It’s a skill that anyone, including me, should be able to learn. I think the most important thing is that you enjoy it and if you enjoy it you’ll keep at it till you’ve learned.

But if you love it then you’ll be happy to write every day, and if you write every day you’ll be getting in so much practice that you’re bound to get really good at it, well maybe I suppose. So I really feel that the most important thing to getting really good at writing is loving doing it.

So this is where I plan to write, and write, and write. It’s my website, probably no one will read it but me, but who cares.

I don’t care about that, I’m not writing it because I want someone to read it, I’m writing it because I like writing it. So if you’re reading it then you might be my first reader, after me. (more…)

What Does Tom Think And Do?

Hi. I’m Tom Williams. I’m going to tell you a bit about myself on this website, including what the weather is like. I love weather.

Welcome to my website and I hope you come back because you find my life interesting enough to read more aobut.

It’s a wonderful day outside and I’m loving it. It’s warm and it’s still and it’s balmy and that’s just how I like it. It’s a perfect day really. Perfect for me.

More about the day. But whilst I’ve decided that it’s a great day you may not. Maybe in fact you’ve decided that it’s a horrible day. Perhaps you’ve had something nasty happen to you today, maybe something really terrible. Your day just isn’t working out so that’s how it’s going for you. So for you it’s a bad day.

But it’s different for you than it is for me of course. It’s entirely subjective and that’s why it may be wonderful for me and terrible for you. My day is the best ever, yours is the worst.

What is it that makes it a great day for me but is really not the best day for someone else? Why is it that I see the sunshine and the cows in the fields and the happy people? Why is it that you may not see these? What is different about you than me?

Maybe you see terrible things in the day, all bad, darkness. The best day for me is the worst day for you. That’s life isn’t it.

Surely the only explanation is that it’s in our minds. We see the day through the filter of our minds and that colors it for us. We don’t see the day, we see what our minds tell us the day is like. We filter the day through our minds and our experiences.

I even think it’s possible that if you and I have the exact same experience of the day we will see it totally differently.

You come for a drive with me and we see different things. You see the same cows, the same sunshine, the same people, but maybe you don’t even see them. Maybe you see something completely different. Your mind registers the same things as mine, and records it, but it filters it all through the experiences you’ve had in the past and mine does that too, and that makes our experience of the day different.

That’s all a little silly isn’t it, a bit too philosophical? But when I woke up and looked out the window I was thinking about that sort of stuff. (more…)
